This year’s prompt for Susanna Leonard Hills Halloweensie contest was loads of fun: write a halloween themed story for children 12 and under, using 100 words or less, that has some variation of the words potion, cobwebs, and trick. Here’s mine, right at 100 words:
A New Friend for Halloween
Halloween is my favorite time of year. My family finally fits. Ms. Johnson says every family’s unique. But I don’t know anyone else who has a mom-ster and a mummy.
Mom-ster screams as she makes blood sausage and potion punch. Mummy arranges the cobwebs. We throw the wickedest Halloween party in town. The costumes are to die for. This year, one guy’s Godzilla costume is so real, I swear I see his tail flick. Must be a trick of the light.
After the party, the new kid lingers. “Thanks for inviting me,” he says. “I can’t take Dad-zilla just anywhere.”
Fun story, monster-ously entertaining! Good luck!

Rachel, was coming in at exactly 100 an additional challenge you put on yourself? Nice work! And, it tickles me that you used “Mom-ster”. That’s what my son used to call his mom (with my coaching, of course).

Thanks! That’s funny. Did he call you Dadzilla though? 😉

Ha, love that your MC accidentally stumbles upon a family like his/her own😍 and my favorite line was “The costumes are to die for.”😂 I love a good pun!
