Gabi Snyder’s debut picture book is a delightful counting concept book with spare rhyme and hilarious illustrations by Robin Rosenthal. Snyder’s text is a perfect example of leaving room for the illustrator, and Rosenthal definitely delivered with her comical cast of characters. My favorites are the dog wearing the cone of shame, and of course the sneaky cat who chases the escaping dogs, catches up to them, and scares them all back home again! Snyder also delivers a clever and humorous twist at the end.
This book is a perfect concept book for young children who enjoy dogs and cats, humor, modes of transportation, and counting forwards to ten and back again. So … that’s all young children, right?
