If Your Babysitter is a Bruja

If Your Babysitter is a Bruja, by Ana Siqueira, Illustrated by Irena Freitas, Simon Schuster Books for Young Readers 2022

Publisher’s description: “On the night before Halloween, a new babysitter might be more than she appears. If she wears a black sombrero and cackles like a crow, she might just be a bruja! One little girl is determined not to fall victim to an evil witch or her cats. She knows bath time is really the bruja’s way of putting her in a boiling cauldron, and the only way to keep her at bay is with a magic potion—or is it? With a boundless imagination and plenty of tricks up her sleeve, the young protagonist may just have the best night ever!

If you haven’t already picked up this cute and spooky gem at your local library or Indie Book Store, now is the time! This witchy story is a perfect Halloween companion, and would also appeal to parents whose child is nervous about being left with a babysitter. The plucky main character is creative and persistent, and the story is full of fun imaginative adventures with a happy ending that will leave you “cackling like a crow.” I also love how it sprinkles in Spanish words in an easy to understand way. The illustrations are whimsical and spooky, but not too scary. I can’t wait to read this one to my two little brujas. 🙂

*Note: I was given a free PDF copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Ana is also a beloved critique partner of mine and has many more beautiful books coming out in the next couple of years.
