With impeccable rhythm and rhyme, Carrie Finison’s debut picture book will have you laughing and groaning as poor LouAnn cooks up batch after batch of donuts, only to have her neighbors stop by and gobble them all up. I love how this story shows that sharing is good – but boundaries are even better. When LouAnn realizes that her neighbors have eaten every last donut, she (perhaps rightly) chases her friends out and throws a beary big temper tantrum. Thankfully, her friends realize how selfish they’ve been and they soon come back to apologize and make amends. The ending is sweet as donuts – and just might leave you hungry for more. In fact, in my four-year-old’s words, “that was really good. I’m hungry now.”
The illustrations in this picture book are adorable, sweet, and funny. I love how they sneak in a bit of multiplication practice for older children by dividing and redividing each group of dozen donuts evenly between the characters as more and more neighbors pop in each time. Math is always better with a spoonful of sugar. Now, I’m off to enjoy a donut!

Sharing is especially hard, especially when it comes to donuts. I’m glad LouAnn’s neighbors came back to make everything right. This sounds like a valuable story to share with children.
